Lesson Terms
Trial Period
New students start with a paid 4-lesson weekly trial. If you’d like to continue afterwards, you’ll be enrolled in the regular lesson schedule for the current term.
Lesson Periods
Lessons are scheduled by the season:
Fall: September – December
Winter: January – March
Spring: April – June
July and August are my break, with no lessons.
Fees & Payments
Tuition is paid in instalments. The first instalment is due before the term starts, and the second falls around the middle of the term. Due dates and lesson dates are listed on your invoice. If you’d rather pay in full, that works too, and if monthly payments suit you better, just ask.
First payment must be completed before your first lesson in order to access the support website and course materials.
Preferred payment: Interac E-Transfer. Cash is also accepted.
Late payments: Instalments more than 1 month overdue will incur a $25 late fee.
Planned Absences
If you already know about dates you’ll miss, tell me when you commit to the term. The same goes if you join part-way through the term, or during your trial. Then we can look at what to do about it.
Usually I’m happy to move a single lesson. If it’s more than one lesson, it may not be the right time to start.
Absences that come up later, even ones you know about a few weeks ahead, fall under Cancelling a Lesson below.
Cancelling a Lesson
If you can’t make a lesson, let me know at least 24 hours ahead. This covers illness, a work trip that came up, or anything else after the term has started.
• You can join by live Zoom at your usual time.
• Or I’ll record the lesson and send it within 24 hours.
If I happen to have an opening that week, I’ll offer it. Some weeks I don’t, and then it’s one of those two options. A reschedule is never guaranteed.
Under 24 hours, please call or text me at 250 777 3086 rather than email, since email may not reach me in time. The same options apply.
Video Recording
Let me know beforehand what you’d like it to cover. If you don’t, I’ll pick something useful for where you’re at.
If you don’t show up and haven’t let me know, the lesson is forfeited.
Teacher Cancellations
If I cancel a lesson, you may choose a make-up session, a video lesson, credit toward your next invoice, or a refund.
Ending Lessons & Cancellation Policy
Normally, students complete lessons through the end of the scheduled lesson period. If you decide to stop mid-term, a $25 cancellation fee applies, and the remaining paid lessons are refunded minus that fee. As with any cancellation, a lesson with less than 24 hours’ notice is forfeited.
If you finish at the end of a term, there’s no fee. I just need 1 week’s notice before the next term starts, so I can offer your slot to someone else.
Trial Period Exception: No cancellation fee is charged if you end lessons during the initial trial period, and any unused trial lessons are refunded.
Example:
Your term has 16 lessons, and you tell me on the weekend before your 10th. You’ll be refunded for lessons 10–16, which is 7 lessons, minus the $25 cancellation fee.
Special Circumstances
If something out of the ordinary comes up, such as an extended illness or a medical emergency, please get in touch. I handle these case by case, with care and flexibility. That can include adjusting what you’re billed or waiving the cancellation fee.
